Police: Person Of Interest Sought In Brooklyn Bomb Scare

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a man they want to question in connection with a bomb scare in Brooklyn.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bay Ridge.

Police said a homeowner on 68 Street found a propane tank with a number pad and wires on it on their porch after someone rang their doorbell and fled.

The device looked dangerous, but the NYPD Bomb Squad rendered it safe and deemed the incident to be a hoax, police said.

Nearby surveillance video shows a person of interest fleeing the scene. Police describe him as a white adult male who was wearing dark clothing.

Tensions have been high in New York City and across the country after twin explosions Monday at the Boston Marathon killed three people and injured more than 170 others.

On Wednesday, police said more than 135 suspicious packages have been reported to the NYPD in the past few days.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or visit  www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
