Sister Of Boston Bombing Suspects May Issue Statement This Week
WEST NEW YORK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A lawyer for a sister of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects said the family may issue a public statement on the case Tuesday.
Attorney Joseph Ginarte showed up Monday at the apartment building in West New York, N.J., where police say Ailina Tsarnaeva has been holed up with her husband and baby.
Ginarte said it’s a very difficult time for the family.
“The family’s going through a lot. It’s a very difficult time for the family. As you can imagine, it’s very difficult. She has a little baby upstairs,” Ginarte told reporters, including 1010 WINS’ Steve Sandberg.
He declined further comment.
The woman spoke briefly Friday through a barely open door to several news outlets. That was before the capture of her younger brother, Dzhokhar.
Alina Tsarnaeva told agents that she had not been in contact with her brothers for years, said West New York Police Director Michael Indri.
“They are smart. My older brother was smart. I don’t know what got into them. I have no idea what got into them,” Tsarnaeva said Friday.
She also said she is sorry for “all the people who are hurt.”
