Authorities Confirm Meteorite Ripped Through Connecticut Roof

WOLCOTT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Some Connecticut residents knew something unusual dropped from the sky last week.

Now authorities have confirmed it was a meteorite.

The space rock damaged a home in Wolcott, when just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, a piece came crashing through the ceiling.

"It sounded like a gun shot, but it was louder, it was a bang. We looked up and saw the ceiling coming down and broke away the sheet rock in the dining room," said homeowner Lawrence Beck.

Police at first theorized the object might have been a regular rock that fell after getting trapped in the landing gear of a plane, but now scientists said it came from space.
