Splurge Or Save: Finding The Perfect Gift For Mother's Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- This Sunday is mom's day to feel special, and finding the right present can make it the perfect Mother's Day.

CBS 2's Emily Smith spoke with experts who had gift ideas for shoppers looking to splurge, those looking to save, and everybody in between.

"Initial necklaces are really hot, so we have a steal from JC Penny for $28, and a splurge from Alex Woo for $158," explained In Touch Weekly senior editor Dorothy Cascerceri.

Tote bags are also big this spring.

"We picked out a great pink tote by Red Valentino, the splurge is $495. It's gorgeous and has a pink bow on it," Cascerceri said.

But, if spending nearly $500 on a bag seems excessive, Jessica Simpson has one for $60.

Experts also recommended scarves for the transitional spring weather. Tory Burch sells one for $155, or you can save on one from Anthropologie for less than $50.

And if you can't afford a gift? Then, you can always make one.

Erika Katz, a parenting expert and author of "Bonding With Beauty," suggested a home-made body scrub.

"This could be a body scrub or for your bath. Epsom salt, sea salt, olive oil, and honey," she explained.

If none of these gifts fit mom's tastes, then an hour or two alone to herself could be the ultimate Mother's Day gift.
