Young Children Among Several Injured In Newark Car Crash

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two young children and their mother are in critical condition following an overnight car crash in Newark.

Investigators said a car carrying 10 passengers struck a tree on Irvine Turner Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. Monday, CBS 2 reported.

All 10 passengers were injured and trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency crews from five area communities responded and pulled the victims from the car.

Police said the mother and two of her children, ages 1 and 2, sustained life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is unclear if charges will be filed.
