Police: Brooklyn Man Had 20 Driver's Licenses, 289 Social Security Numbers

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man is accused of possessing 20 driver's licenses from three different states and 289 Social Security numbers.

Police said Emmanuel Egbunike, 43, was first picked up  in Farmingdale by detectives from the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department last Wednesday and charged with grand larceny. It was not immediately clear what led Mamaroneck police to arrest Egbunike.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives searched Egbunike's vehicle and found 10 New Jersey driver's licenses, nine from Maryland and one from Connecticut, all with his photo on them, police said.

"Detectives also recovered names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers of 289 individuals," police spokesperson Bernadette Zimmermann told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs.

Brooklyn Man Arrested for Identity Theft

Mamaroneck detectives contacted the Suffolk County Police Identity Theft Unit after the find, police said.

After his release from the Westchester County Correctional Facility on Thursday, detectives from the Suffolk County Police Identity Theft Unit arrested Egbunike and took him back to Long Island.

He was then charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument and unlawful possession of personal identification information, police said.

Egbunike is being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation is ongoing.
