NEW YORK (WLNY) -- Neil Patrick Harris will return to host the Tony Awards on June 8th, as the best from Broadway compete for the highest honor in the business.

The big story out of this year's Tony Award nominations? 'Kinky Boots' nabbing 13 nominations, with 'Matilda: The Musical' hot on its heels with 12 nods.

Both will compete for the best musical prize with the acrobatic "Bring It On: The Musical" and "A Christmas Story, The Musical," adapted from the beloved holiday movie.

The best play nominees are Richard Greenberg's "The Assembled Parties," the late Nora Ephron's "Lucky Guy," Colm Toibin's "The Testament of Mary" and Christopher Durang's "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike."

While some movie stars like Tom Hanks are up for awards, noticeably absent from the list of nominees were several other silver screen celebritiyies with recent gigs on the Great White Way, like Bette Midler and Alec Baldwin.
