Michael, Sophia Top List Of New York's Most Popular Baby Names

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Hey, baby.

Michael and Sophia topped the list for the most popular baby names in the state of New York in 2012, the Social Security Administration announced on Thursday. The same two names were atop the list of 2011's most popular baby names, as well.

Michael was followed by Jacob, Jayden, Ethan, and Mason, while the top 5 for girls was rounded out by Isabella, Emma, Olivia and Ava.

Nationally, 'Jacob' has reigned as the top baby name for boys since at least 2002.

Most recently in New York City, Isabella and Jayden came out on top as the two most popular baby names in the Big Apple for the third year in a row in 2011.
