Police: Armed Gunmen Rob, Abduct Driver In Freeport Carjacking

FREEPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Nassau County police are looking for five suspects who they said robbed a driver at gunpoint, bound him and then drove around with him in the trunk before letting him go.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. Thursday on North Beach Avenue at West Seaman Avenue in Freeport.

A 35-year-old man driving a Mercedes was stopped at a traffic light when five armed men, four with handguns and one with a shotgun, pulled him out of the car, police said.

The gunmen then robbed the man and struck him in the head with a gun, police said. The victim was then bound and gagged with duct tape and stuffed into the trunk of the car, police said.

After driving around for about 15 minutes, they pulled the man out of the trunk and dumped him in a yard on Jefferson Avenue in Lakeview, police said.

The man was able to get free and was eventually taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspects were all between the ages of 18 and 20 and were wearing hooded sweatshirts, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
