NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man and woman were injured Sunday afternoon when a driver plowed right into them, and sped off afterward, in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

All of a sudden, a big gold sport-utility vehicle came speeding down the street – right through their wrought iron fence and onto those very steps, crushing the man’s leg underneath. They were both taken to an area hospital.

Juan has been a friend of the man’s for a long time, and he heard the crash.

After the driver took off, police came down the street. When an officer noticed the broken fence and the truck in the yard, the officer backed up and took off after the driver.

But the officer did not catch the driver, for whom police were still searching Sunday night.
