Police: Car Fire At Palisades Mall Caused By Burning American Flags

NEW CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are investigating an alleged arson at the Palisades Mall parking lot in Rockland County.

It appears two American flags attached to a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck were set on fire around 11 p.m. Monday night, police said.

"As a result of the flags burning, embers caught the bed of the truck on fire causing damage to that area of the truck," Clarkstown Police Department Sgt. Joanne Fratianni told 1010 WINS.

The West Nyack Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

Witnesses said they saw a red car parked a few spots away from the pickup truck leaving the scene "in a hurry" after the fire started.

"The vehicle was possibly occupied by two white females and one black male wearing a blue baseball cap," Fratianni said.
