Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor Addresses Graduating New York Students

NEW YORK (AP) --Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has given an entire class of high school students in upstate New York an unexpected graduation gift.

The associate justice and native New Yorker delivered an unannounced address to the graduating class of the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Friday night.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports Sotomayor's nephews, twins Conner and Corey Sotomayor, were among the graduating seniors. Her brother Juan Sotomayor lives in a suburb north of Syracuse.

The newspaper says Sotomayor recounted the story of when she first met her nephews, who were adopted from Korea, when they were just 20-months-old.

Sotomayor also said that despite many obstacles in her own life, including having diabetes, she has succeeded despite failing at times along the way. She urged the new grads to take risks.
