Guess Who's On Twitter? Welcome None Other Than Alex Rodriguez

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Uh-oh. This could end badly.

Guess who's the latest athlete to join Twitter?

None other than Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who just so happens to be one of -- if not the -- most disliked athletes in all of sports.

The 14-time All-Star's Twitter handle is @AROD. His first tweet was actually on May 31, but Ben Grossman, the head of global operations for Twitter Media, tweeted on Monday that the account is in fact a real one.

A-Rod now has a verified blue checkmark, and as of 5:30 p.m. on Monday he had 14,783 followers. That number will clearly skyrocket with every minute. He's only tweeted eight times and isn't following any users.

The 37-year-old has kept his tweets baseball-centric, and wisely hasn't written anything about his personal life which could lead to additional controversy.

It was reported on Monday that Rodriguez, currently at the center of MLB's investigation into Biogenesis, could start a rehab assignment next week.

The three-time American League MVP showed some power while taking simulated at-bats on Monday.
