Police: Shocking Broad Daylight Sex Attack Leaves Part Of Flushing On Edge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is investigating a shocking sex attack that took place in the middle of the day.

They're hunting for a man who sexually assaulted a middle-aged woman while he was armed with a gun, CBS 2's John Slattery reported.

The man police are looking for was last seen on surveillance wearing a blue T-shirt and ball cap. He's giving part of Flushing, Queens the jitters.

The shocking attack happened Saturday afternoon just before 5 p.m. on Union Street just off Northern Boulevard. It's a strip of Asian stores and the security camera outside one computer shop recorded the image.

"They copied the video camera," store owner Nam Kim said, adding the suspect had never been seen before.

The suspect was last seen walking down the street and before disappearing. Police said the victim was a 47-year-old woman, who told police she was sexually assaulted by a man with a gun in his waistband.

The man with the security camera said the attack took place three doors down from his shop. The location is a second-floor massage parlor, one of several on the block. It was closed Thursday.

After the first shot of the suspect, the video shows him walking back about 20 minutes later. One woman wondered if the attacker expected to get away with it.

"Wow, what kind of massage parlor did he think it was? In this neighborhood, he might think it was something else. I do think it's terrible, awful," neighbor Deirdra Rhoden said.

The suspect is a large man, white, in his 40s, 6-foot to 6-4 and around 220 pounds. In addition to the blue T-shirt and ball cap, he was last seen wearing shorts and sneakers.

The victim was taken to Queens General Hospital in stable condition.
