Experts: Deals In Store Ahead Of July 4 Holiday
HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- No matter the weather, one thing will be certain this holiday weekend: the sale will be in effect.
As CBS 2's Carolyn Gusoff reported Tuesday, retail experts recommend taking a lap around the stores before taking in the fireworks and barbecues.
"The Fourth of July is actually a pretty interesting holiday because you can actually get deals on in-season items such as summer apparel, patio furniture and even grills," Louis Ramirez with dealnews.com told Gusoff.
Retail experts said the electronics department will offer big savings on laptops and TVs.
"In particular on 55-inch 3D models, which you would think 3D, when it first debuted, those TVs were at close to $2,500. Now they're at lows of $720," Ramirez said.
Just two weeks into summer, you can outfit your backyard -- and yourself -- for half price.
"You can get shorts, you can get t-shirts, you can get tunics, you can just about get everything you need for the season," Amanda Corbo with IDO Children's Boutique in Huntington told Gusoff.
Across the Long Island town, sale signs were up even on designer goods.
"It's a great time to get a bargain on any women's designer shoes, handbag or any wardrobing needs," Laurie Palladino of Marsh's told Gusoff.
And if you've waited to design your garden, you won't have to dig as deep into your wallet. Garden centers like Hicks were offering deals on plants, backyard furniture and barbecue grills.
"Everything from fire pits to seating groups, table sets, balcony sets," Felix Cutrone with Hicks Nurseries told Gusoff.
Merchants said the deepest cuts and best selection are available in store now through Thursday. Many stores will be open on the nation's birthday.
The sales will stretch into the long weekend. Fall merchandise will be filling the racks in three short weeks.
Dealnews.com suggested waiting until September to buy bedding and linen. Those sales will take effect after Labor Day.
