Cops Investigate Response To Fatal Bronx Fire

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating a fire that killed one and injured others in the Bronx on Friday.

Enriqueta Velez, the daughter-in-law of late Bronx Councilman Ramon Velez Sr, was killed in the fire. Enriqueta's husband Ramon Velez Jr and another family member remained in the hospital on Saturday.

It took dozens of firefighters about 30 minutes to put out the flames.

"The main problem was that the fire was pretty much inside the front door so the main effort in searching the building had to come after the hose lines were moving into the building so there was a little bit of a delay in that regard," said Deputy Fire Chief Don Levy.

Investigators are working to determine whether or not a call about the fire was handled properly. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
