Report: Cano's Dad Expects Him To Return To The Yankees

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - One of the biggest concerns for the New York Yankees in the upcoming offseason will be whether they will be able to re-sign second baseman Robinson Cano.

However if Cano's father, Jose Cano, has anything to say about it, Cano will be returning to the Yankees next season.

"I don't think he is going to go anywhere else. Hopefully, he can stay here," Jose Cano said, according to a report from ESPN.com

Jose was speaking to the media in the American League clubhouse ahead of All-Star game at Citi Field.

Robinson declined to comment when he was asked about his father's comments.

"Next question, I'm not saying anything about my contract," Cano said.

Jose Cano went on to say, "I have confidence that the Yankees are going to come up with something good in the end, I hope he can stay here. It is close to home and it only three hours. If he goes someplace else, it might be five or six hours. I don't want to go there. But it is not my decision. He has to make that decision."

Jose also seems to have some insight into the Yankee clubhouse. He thinks that if Cano signs with Yankees, he eventually will become the team's next captain after Jeter of course, according the report on ESPN.com.

"He could be the leader, Robinson is very smart and quiet; he is not going to talk too much," Jose said.
