Man Charged In Hit-And-Run Accident That Killed Woman In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in a hit-and-run accident that left a woman dead on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens.

Carl Alvear, 34, of Queens, has been charged with manslaughter by recklessly causing death in the crash that killed Latrisah Been, 31, also of Queens, early Saturday.

Around 4:49 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck at 87-07 Van Wyck Expwy. in the Kew Gardens section of Queens.

Responding officers found Been unconscious and unresponsive at the scene, with trauma to the body.

Paramedics took Been to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators have learned that a truck headed north on the Van Wyck struck the victim and sped off. Alvear was believed to be the driver of the truck.
