Driver Loses Control, Slams Into Pedestrians And Businesses In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An out-of-control driver struck multiple pedestrians and took out four storefronts Monday evening in the Baychester section of the Bronx.

The driver, a woman, lost control around 6:45 p.m. at 3477 Boston Road in the Bronx, authorities told 1010 WINS.

Three people, including the driver, were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. Several others were treated at the scene for cuts from broken glass, authorities said.

The driver also plowed through a restaurant, a deli, an insurance brokerage, and a jewelry store on Boston Road. The storefronts were severely damaged, 1010 WINS reported.

A city Department of Buildings representative said the buildings remained structurally sound. But because of the damage, the businesses were to be closed until further notice.

Details of how and why the driver lost control were not immediately available.
