Santonio Holmes Says He 'Can't Run'; Fan Video Shows A Little Hustle

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Santonio Holmes says he still can't run as he recovers from foot surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury suffered early last season.

But he jogged over to reporters Monday before delivering the news. A fan at training camp in Cortland even caught the wide receiver on video running at three-quarters speed on the sideline at Jets practice. Just the day before, he moved around catching balls.

So can he or can't he? That depends on your definition of "running."

INJURY EXPERT: THIS DEBATE IS ABSURD

"I don't consider that as running," Holmes said about Sunday's workload. "It was actually the first day I've done stuff, so definitely progress has started. Right now, I can't run."

Holmes Video: Is He Milking It?

An ESPN report recently suggested some in the Jets organization wonder whether Holmes is "milking the injury" to maximize his value in what could figure to be a contract year.

"It's just the opposite," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "I can tell you this about Holmes: He is doing everything we've been asking him to do. He is pushing it like crazy. He's in phenomenal shape. He's probably in as good a shape, conditioning-wise, as you can be in."

WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton got into it a little bit after watching the video of Holmes running -- or was he just in a brisk jog?

"Alright, I'll put my name on it," Carton said. "Have you seen the video? Santonio Holmes is dogging it. That's your reality."

Esiason disagreed.

Make up your own mind. Here's the video captured and uploaded to Instagram by Jets fan Thomas Rossi:
