NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Charges were pending Saturday evening against the driver who police blamed for a crash that killed two teenage boys in the Rockaways.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. Saturday at Beach 41st Street and the Rockaway Freeway in the Arverne section of Queens. The A train elevated subway tracks run over the freeway.

The 19-year-old was headed west on the Rockaway Freeway when his 2009 Toyota Corolla struck a concrete support pillar for the A train tracks, police said.

The front passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The rear passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was pronounced dead shortly afterward at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

Police did not provide information about possible charges against the driver.
