Mets Ace Matt Harvey Has Partially Torn Ligament In Right Elbow
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's the news that is sending Mets fans into immediate panic. The Mets could be without inspirational ace Matt Harvey for a very long time.
Celebrated "Harvey Days" might need to be put on hold for awhile.

Francesa joined substitute hosts Joe and Evan on the Monday afternoon edition of "Mike's On" to report that Mets ace Matt Harvey will go on the disabled list due to a partially-torn UCL in his right elbow.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed that there is a significant chance that Harvey could be shut down for the rest of the year.
"It's possible he won't pitch rest of the season," Alderson told reporters.

The injury tends to result in Tommy John surgery. Should that be the case, Harvey could miss extended time. According to WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman, typical Tommy John surgery requires 13-14 months of recovery.
"We're all aware of what a delay might cause," Alderson said.
Alderson also revealed that Harvey was experiencing forearm troubles for "some time" and was undergoing treatments throughout the season.
"This was a surprise to all of us, including Matt himself, who has not really experienced elbow pain," Alderson said. "There were other issues as well over the course of the season."
As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, Mets fans were disappointed upon hearing the news.
"It's always tough to be a Mets fan, but when the future of your team has a tear in his UCL and could possibly be out through the entire '14 season, it's like, I mean, at this point, we're kind of used to it though," one fan said at Citi Field.
"I am not happy about it," Mets fan Len Laurelton, of Paramus, N.J., told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond. "He's the Seaver of the 2000s, right? He's the ace. He's the next decade."

But Alderson does not believe that the injury could be career-ending.
"This is not a career-ending injury under any stretch of the imagination," Alderson said. "This is what many successful teams must go through from time to time, and for us to expect not to have to go through it from time to time would be unrealistic. The news was tough today. No question about it. And the full implication of it probably has not yet been felt. But we have to respond, and we will."
Through 26 starts, Harvey was 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA. He started for the National League at the 2013 All-Star Game held at Citi Field.
"The fans want to see this guy pitch," manager Terry Collins said.
Harvey has been one of the star attractions of the 2013 MLB season and is undoubtedly a key component of the long-term plans for the franchise. Known for his blazing fastball, the 24-year-old is among National League leaders in multiple statistical categories.
Alongside Zack Wheeler, the Mets possess two of the most promising young starting pitchers in all of baseball. For now, the Mets will need to put half of their dynamic one-two punch on the shelf.
