Crying Baby Pulled From Trash Bag In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A baby in Jersey City owes his life to the combined efforts of a group of boys playing near an apartment building on Kensington Ave, the super, and his wife.

The boys noticed a moving trash bag and the sound of a crying baby.

They knocked on the super's door and he and his wife ran outside and tore the bag open, 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported.

"I saw that there was a baby in there and I ripped the bag more where his face was and the baby had garbage all over it," Rebecca Walmers said.

The baby was breathing and the good Samaritans called 911. First responders took the baby to the hospital with the umbilical cord still attached.

None of the tenants in the Walmers' building were pregnant, WINS' Baumgarten reported. The incident remains under investigation.
