NEW YORK (WFAN) — WFAN host Mike Francesa returned from vacation on Tuesday and immediately went after the Jets, who are expected by many to be one of the worst teams in the National Football League in 2013.
Francesa didn’t yell, but he was stern in getting his point across.
“Now you have a head coach who doesn’t even act like the same human being,” Francesa said in regard to Rex Ryan. “And this has nothing to do with his weight loss. This has to do with the fact that he has had his complete power base eroded, to the point where he has no power. And he is just a guy going through the motions.
“Now he will coach the heck out of his defense because that’s his want. And he will let (offensive coordinator Marty) Mornhinweg coach the offense, and they will go through this season, and then he will depart and they will blame everything on this season on him.”
Francesa then criticized general manager John Idzik, who he doesn’t think will succeed in his new position.
“Idzik has no personality, and (he’s) going to be a total dud in New York,” Francesa said, “unless he turns out to really be able to pick players, and he’s not shown any inclination at all that he can do that. He has no history of that. And so far he has not shown you any inkling that he is gonna be good at that. Now, I’m not telling you I can get a full grade on Idzik in a couple of months, that’s not fair.
“But what I’ve seen so far, none of it is exciting, and none of it is in any way — in any way — exhilarating. He looks like he’s lost.”
In Francesa’s mind, there’s just no way around it — 2013 will be a lost season for Gang Green.
“What they’ve decided to do is just button up and say nothing, and allow this season to just come and go,” Francesa said. “And if you’re dumb enough to buy tickets to watch this, well, that’s your problem … They’re gonna have a zillion empty seats, they are gonna have a listless, awful season and they are going to have a head coach who is just going to sleepwalk through this entire season, as he has done in the preseason.”
