NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Yes, this is real. You’re not imagining things. Gene Simmons wants Tim Tebow to play for his KISS-owned Arena Football League team in Los Angeles.
“Acquiring Tebow would not only be a great investment for the team, but his exciting style of play would definitely send shockwaves through the League,” Simmons said in a statement. “We’re excited for the opportunity to see him with an LA KISS uniform on, and for the LA KISS fans to be rockin’ their Tebow shirts and jerseys.”
The L.A. KISS said Monday that its offer to the former Denver Broncos, New York Jets and New England Patriots quarterback “will encompass a three-year contract with the possibility for Tebow to earn millions.”
“Tim Tebow is one of the most recognized and respected athletes in sports,” legendary KISS member Paul Stanley said. “His joining us would mean great things for his fans and for our team, especially from a business standpoint.”
The Patriots released Tebow late last month but haven’t ruled out a comeback.
Before temporarily landing in New England, Tebow received offers from the Omaha Beef of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League and the Orlando Predators of the Arena League. Even the Legends Football League — formerly the Lingerie Football League — wanted him to be a quarterbacks coach. It was also speculated that he might want to consider transitioning to the Canadian Football League.
Tebow was cut by the Jets in April. Used primarily as a personal punt protector on special teams, he completed six of eight passes for 39 yards in 2012. He also rushed the ball 32 times for 102 yards. He never found the end zone in his lone season with New York.
