'Couch' Guest Hosts Jodi Applegate, Trisha Goddard Share Similar Childhood Secrets

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- Trisha Goddard served as guest host of The Couch on Friday -- but she is also the mediator of real life dramas on her own show, 'The Trisha Goddard Show.'

Paternity tests are the focus of the new season of the show on WLNY-TV.

As it turns out, Goddard's own life was marked by her family's paternity struggle -- and she is joined in this by fellow Couch guest host and veteran newswoman Jodi Applegate.

"Long story made short, I was made the believe that the man I was brought up was my father, even though he was white, my sisters were a different color." Goddard said. "And then after my mother passed away, the man I had been told was my father sat down with me and my husband and said 'I'm not your dad, I've known from the minute you were born."

"You know what? I have a similar thing," Applegate said. "I was led to believe me that the man that raised me -- and I found out after my mother died that [he wasn't my father]. But I feel like he's my father cause he did the hard work of raising me. Ultimately it's not about the DNA."
