NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A fire in the Bronx on Saturday morning has left a wheelchair-bound man dead and his mother fighting for her life, officials said.
The blaze in Bronxwood started around 6 a.m. at a six-story brick residential building on Colden Avenue near Williamsbridge Road, fire officials said. More than 100 residents were evacuated.
The fire started inside the victims’ apartment, WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reported. Neighbors tried to break the door down but couldn’t get to the man in time. He and his mother were rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where the 54-year-old woman is in critical condition.
