Ossining Math Teacher Pleads Guilty To Rape

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A high school teacher in Ossining pleaded guilty to a rape charge this week, admitting to having sex with a 16-year-old student.

John Azabache pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree rape, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's office.

Azabache's attorney, Tony Castro, said his client will be sentenced in December to 10 years of probation and will have to register as a sex offender.

Azabache, of Port Chester, was a math teacher at Ossining High School. He was arrested in July when police said he'd had sex twice with the girl.

He was arraigned on July 12 – the day that was supposed to get married. But the wedding by then had been called off, and his ex-fiancée had obtained an order of protection.

Azabache has off the payroll since last week, the school district said.
