Photos Released Of 3 Sought In Connection With Slaying Of Homeless Man In Hoboken

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Law enforcement officials have released several images of three individuals considered "persons of interest" in the beating death of a homeless man in Hoboken.

The body of Ralph Eric Santiago, 46, was discovered by passersby on Sept. 10 with his neck lodged in a fence on Third Avenue. Santiago was followed by three individuals when one struck him from behind for no apparent reason, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. Santiago then collapsed onto an iron fence, with his neck resting between two posts, where he died, officials said.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the three people seen in grainy surveillance photos. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit at 201-915-1345. All calls will be kept confidential.

The Jersey Journal reported Sunday that Santiago was the victim of a similar attack 27 years ago in the Bronx. Tracy Squillini, Santiago's ex-wife and the mother of his son, told the paper that Santiago was attacked from behind while walking with friends in a public housing complex in the Bronx. His head was repeatedly pounded into the sidewalk, leaving him in a coma for a month, according to Squillini. He was never the same again, she said.
