Sources: Ex-Boyfriend Wanted In Murder Of Brooklyn Mom

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for the ex-boyfriend of a mother who was murdered in Brooklyn, sources said.

Shellis Gonzales, 46, was found shot in the head and torso in her apartment on Chauncey Street in Ocean Hill around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, police said. She was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

Sources tell CBS 2 Gonzales had an order of protection against her ex, but that order had expired.

Community Activist Tony Herbert is pleading for him to surrender.

"We're saying to this young man, look you made a mistake. We want to work with you," Herbert said. "At this point you're recognized to be armed and dangerous."

Herbert said his group will ensure the alleged shooter is given safe passage into the precinct.

The investigation is ongoing.
