Woman Caught On Surveillance Video Stealing Baby Stroller From Front Yard

LINDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Linden are trying to track down a woman accused of grand theft stroller.

As CBS 2's Tony Aiello reported Friday, surveillance video captured a woman, apparently tired of carrying her child, stealing a baby stroller right out of a front yard.

"Oh my God!" a woman said after viewing the surveillance tape. "That's crazy!"

"I can't believe that she would steal a stroller," another mom told Aiello.

A surveillance camera captured three women with children walking down West Blancke Street in Linden last week.

Two of the women are seen pushing strollers but the third woman is seen carrying a child.

She spots a stroller parked in a yard, opens the gate and takes what isn't hers, police said.

"She just pulls it, and the other two women are just on the street watching her nonchalantly," Linden Police Capt. James Sarnicki told Aiello."It was a brazen act committed by a young mother who's holding a child in her arms."

According to police, the two-seat Jeep model stroller that was snatched sells for about $100.

"She's very upset, very upset," Sofia Halkias, a friend of the stroller's owner, told Aiello. "She just can't believe it, in your own house...your own yard."

The video of someone with a child committing even a minor crime upset some local residents, Aiello reported.

"She should not be raising children. She's setting a terrible example," neighbor Brian Poller said.

But the homeowner said she is willing to forgive the stroller stealer, Aiello reported.

"All she wants is to have the stroller back," Sarnicki said.

Police said if it's returned, the victim may choose not to press charges.

The woman was dressed distinctly in a long white dress, carrying her child in a sling. Police said they're already getting tips that could help locate her.
