Cardinals' Safety Loses Part Of Finger During Loss To Saints

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Ouch.

Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson lost part of his left middle finger during his team's 31-7 loss in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Arizona Republic, Johnson, in his fifth NFL season and fresh off signing a three-year contract back in March, suffered the horrific injury after trying to tackle the Saints' Darren Sproles on a punt return. He took off his glove and noticed part of his finger was still inside the glove.

The paper reported Johnson lost the tip of his finger, down to about the first knuckle.

Doctors performed surgery on Sunday — shaving the bone and repairing the digit — but the risk of infection remained because the bone was exposed, the paper reported.

There was no immediate word on how much time Johnson would miss. He has 13 tackles in three games this season for the 1-2 Cardinals.
