Report: NFL Considering Dropping Preseason Game, Expanding Playoffs

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Over the last few seasons, we've seen many changes in the NFL.

But one drastic change could be coming that would really turn the league upside down.

According to ESPN, the NFL is in discussions to reduce the preseason slate from four games to three. The regular season would still consist of 16 games.

The catch?

The league might consider expanding its playoff field from 12 teams to 14 teams, according to the network.

Sources told ESPN that the new scheduling format could be implemented as soon as 2014, though it's unlikely that it would happen that quickly.
