Woman Shot Dead In Housing Development Near Pratt Institute

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was found shot to death Tuesday in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn – just a couple of blocks from the Pratt Institute campus.

The 24-year-old woman's body was found around 11:30 a.m. in a courtyard in the Lafayette Gardens Houses public housing development, at 470 DeKalb Ave., police said.

The woman had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, and was pronounced dead a short time later at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, police said.

A DNAInfo report said the victim was caught in the crossfire between two groups firing at each other. Witnesses told the publication they heard four or five shots, and that the victim was killed by a hail of bullets.

An aunt identified the woman to the publication as Nicholiea Taylor, a mother of two who worked as a nurse.

The crime scene is a couple of blocks east of the Pratt campus, on the cusp of the Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill sections of Brooklyn.

As of late Tuesday, there had been no arrests and the investigation continued, police said.
