1 Killed, 3 Injured In Newark Shootings

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Four people were shot -- one fatally -- in two separate shootings in Newark on Saturday night, police said.

Both shootings occurred around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, but they do not appear to be related. Authorities say the motives for both shootings remain under investigation.

The Newark Star-Ledger reported that the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Newark resident Alwali McKie marked the city's 73rd homicide this year. It occurred on Aldine Street in the city's South Ward.

The other shooting occurred in the 100 block of Avon Avenue, near the border of the city's Central and South Wards. The three people wounded in the shooting were expected to recover, but their names and further details on their injuries were not disclosed.
