Police: Hit-And-Run Driver Struck Nassau Cop

SYOSSET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Nassau County police officer was the victim of a hit-and-run Monday morning in Syosset, authorities said.

The highway patrol officer was conducting a traffic stop just before noon on the Long Island Expressway's South Service Road near South Oyster Bay Road when he was struck by a large truck while standing outside his car, police said. The truck, which was carrying pipes, continued to drive east without stopping, authorities said.

The officer suffered injuries to his head, neck and back. He was taken to a hospital and released.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
