Washington then walked into the home and stole the 55-year-old resident's jewelry, police said. Neighbors told Hall the stolen items included an engagement ring passed down to the woman from generations past.

Police said the victim confronted the suspect, who threatened to shoot her.

The suspect then allegedly ran, but was caught at a motel in Queens, police said. The woman's jewelry was not recovered.

One neighbor told Hall his home was also broken into two years ago.

"The prior owner – she was a very elderly lady. She was broken into," the man said.

The man said he now has a burglar alarm because of that incident.
