SPCA: Body Of Dead Cat Found Sitting 'Like A Child' In L.I. Shopping Cart

SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County SPCA is investigating after the body of a cat was found propped up in a sitting position in a shopping cart.

The adult cat was found near the Coastal Gas Station on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley.

Roy Gross, Chief of the SPCA, said the cat's body was "in the baby seat of the shopping cart, propped up as if it was sitting there like a child."

He said the cat was found with blunt force trauma to the side of its head.

"We are looking at this as a possible case of animal cruelty, but at this point we don't have that information," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
