Police: Driver Crashes Into L.I. Home

SAYVILLE, NY (CBSNewYork) -- A couple is calling it a miracle that a car only slightly damaged their home after the driver, who police said was under the influence, lost control.

There are car parts everywhere around the home on Broadway Avenue in Sayville.

Authorities said the driver, who was under the influence, hit a light pole, then the curb. The car then went airborne and landed on the side of Lisa Romard's home.

She said she was sound asleep when the crash happened at 3:30 a.m.

"All of sudden, this tremendous boom sound," she told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "At the same time, the whole house shook."

She said if the car had crashed through the house, the second floor where her bedroom is located would have come crashing down.

"I swear, we had a guardian angel standing on my porch or right in the front of my yard," she said. "He was headed right into my house and somehow he just veered just a little bit to the right."

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
