Thanksgiving Fire Destroys Edison, N.J. Townhouse

EDISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A family in New Jersey narrowly escaped a fire that broke out as they were about to put their Thanksgiving meal on the table.

Flames were shooting out of the windows of a townhouse in the Westgate Square community of Edison, N.J. on Thursday.

The fire quickly destroyed the home and forced the family to abandon their holiday and head to safety.

"We were in the kitchen and putting food on the table and the guys were upstairs watching football and the next thing you know my son was running downstairs saying there was smoke coming from the vent upstairs," Dorian Douglas-Chase said.

Fire officials have not said what caused the fire.
