Police: Infant Dead After Being Found Unconscious At S.I. Hotel

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City police say a baby girl found unconscious at a Staten Island hotel that serves as a homeless shelter is dead.

Police responded to a 911 call to the Midland Motor Inn at about 10:45 p.m. Friday and officers found the 3-month-old girl.

Emergency services took the infant to Staten Island University North Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified the girl as Jessica Holland and listed her address as the hotel address.

The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death. No criminal charges have been filed.

The Staten Island Advance reports that the hotel has served the homeless for several years and has a history of problems.

One resident told the Advance in 2009 that the facility was full of bedbugs.
