Islanders To Play As Scheduled Despite Blizzard Warning

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Islanders say they will play the Chicago Blackhawks as scheduled Thursday night at Nassau Coliseum despite a major winter storm bearing down on the Tri-State area.

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. On its website, the team urged fans to allow extra time for travel and promised "parking lots will be plowed and ready for your arrival."

Nassau and Suffolk counties will be under a blizzard warning from 6 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday.

Some areas could see as much as a foot of snow by the time the storm wraps up Friday. High winds combined with falling snow could create visibility issues on Long Island.

All other local teams are either inactive or on the road Thursday. The Knicks play in San Antonio and the Nets are in Oklahoma City. The Devils and Rangers have the night off.
