L.I. Couple Seeks Answers After Pet Chihuahua Killed At Doggy Day Care

SYOSSET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island family is in shock after their dog was apparently killed by another dog at a pet sitting service.

Amy Cicio, of Syosset, said she left her six-pound Chihuahua, named Reba, at Two by Four Doggy Day Care in Oyster Bay the weekend before New Year's.

When Cicio arrived on Dec. 29 to pick up Reba after an overnight visit, she was told her pet was attacked by another dog.

"They said there had been a terrible accident, but they didn't see what happened," Cicio said. "They turned around and they saw that the dog was laying in the yard. They picked her up and they brought her to the 24-hour vet."

Reba had multiple bite wounds, three broken ribs, a punctured lung and neck and head trauma, Cicio and her husband said.

Vets pronounced her dead on arrival.

Day care owner Melanie Nardiello said a 20-pound dog apparently attacked Reba, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

Nardiello said the incident happened so quickly, nobody could save Reba.

"I've been in business six years and I've never had an incident like this happen," Nardiello said.

Cicio may sue the day care, charging the dogs weren't properly supervised, Rivera reported.
