DEER PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – One man is dead and another was critically injured in a shooting outside a Long Island bar early Thursday morning.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, the shooting happened outside the Nite Owl Lounge in Deer Park around 2:20 a.m.

“When police arrived, they found a car with a number of bullet holes in it and two victims within,” Suffolk County Homicide Chief Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick told Xirinachs.

According to police, two people standing in a group outside the bar opened fire when the white Cadillac pulled into the parking lot.

The driver, identified by police as Jean Yves, 25, of Wyandanch, was pronounced dead at the hospital. A passenger was struck in the chest and a third person in the car was not injured, according to police.

Police said they have reason to believe the shootings were gang related. The location has a known drug history, Xirinachs reported.

Witnesses said the suspects fled the scene in two cars, Xirinachs reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
