Knicks' Woodson Expects To Still Have Job After All-Star Break
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mike Woodson expects to still be coaching the New York Knicks after the All-Star break despite reports that his future with the team is tenuous at best.
"Unless you guys know something I don't know, then the only thing I can say is I'm going to be back," Woodson said Monday, according to Newsday. "Unless you guys know something, I'm the coach of the Knicks, and that's all I know at this point."
Woodson was reportedly visited by Knicks owner James Dolan after last week's 94-90 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers at Madison Square Garden. Dolan's pop-in came on the heels of a report by the Bergen Record's Steve Popper that Woodson could be fired sometime in February.
A loss to Oklahoma City on Sunday dropped the streaky Knicks to 20-31. They have lost four of five and face Sacramento on Wednesday in their last game before All-Star weekend.
"I think at the end of the day, we've kind of dug a hole. Only we can dig out of the hole," Woodson said. "And I think we still can in terms of making it to the playoffs, and that's the only thing that should be on anyone's mind at this point."
Woodson said he's told his players that he's a "big boy" who can handle himself.
"We've got to get mentally and physically ready for Sacramento and then we've got two or three days off as a ballclub to think about and reflect where we are as a ballclub and go from there," he said.
The Knicks' first game after the break is Feb. 18 in Memphis.
