Police went to her Burnett Street apartment around 6:30 a.m. last Monday after receiving a 911 call of a family assault.

Police said they found Dorothy Farrell with trauma about the head and body. She was taken to Kings County Hospital where she died Monday.

Her 64-year-old son, Mark Farrell, was placed under arrest and charged with attempted murder, felony assault, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said the charges are expected to be upgraded after the medical examiner determines the cause of death.
