Sources: Police Investigating After Body Found In Burned Car In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating after a body was found inside a car that was discovered burning in an alley on Allerton Avenue in the Bronx.

As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, neighbors strained to get a glimpse of the charred car in the alley, wondering who would do something like that.

"Whoever did it, they're definitely trying to make a statement," said neighbor Sonya.

A witness told police two men set the car on fire around 5:30 a.m., law enforcement sources told Rincon.

Law enforcement sources said police found the body of a man burned beyond recognition after firefighters had extinguished the flames.

The car's licenses plates were missing, but law enforcement sources told 1010 WINS that one was found nearby. The BMW's registered owner was located, the sources said.

Ezcema Brown said she's worried that the owner of the BMW is the mother of one of her brother's four children and that the victim might be her brother.

"We haven't heard from him. His baby mother said his sneakers were found at his house and we don't know what's going on. I want some answers," Brown said.

Brown told Rincon she's not aware of any problems her brother may have had with anyone.
