Jets Lose Out On Pettigrew, Munnerlyn; Cro Visits Cardinals

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Jets made a big splash Wednesday night by signing free-agent wide receiver Eric Decker.

Thursday wasn't as kind to general manager John Idzik. And Friday hasn't been much better.

The Jets were reportedly targeting tight end Brandon Pettigrew, but he's returning to the Detroit Lions on a four-year deal. Former Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn won't be making his reported visit to Florham Park after signing with the Minnesota Vikings.

We all know what happened with All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. He reportedly wanted to come back to New York, coach Rex Ryan apparently wanted him back, but he ended up with the rival New England Patriots.

Pittsburgh free-agent receiver Emmanuel Sanders had to cancel his meeting with the Jets due to a conflict and will visit Kansas City instead on Friday, according to the New York Daily News. Food for thought: teams don't like their visitors to leave without a contract.

Meanwhile, cornerback Antonio Cromartie is negotiating with the Cardinals, according to The Arizona Republic. Cromartie was released by the Jets on March 9.

So what's next for Idzik & Co.?

According to Kimberley Martin of Newsday, the Jets are still in play for an upgrade at safety. (Who's still available? Get the latest with our free-agency tracker.)

The Jets also reportedly have interest in Green Bay wide receiver James Jones. Then there's the big question: would the team bring in quarterback Michael Vick?

Stay tuned.

And don't forget, there's still the belief that good teams build through the draft.
