Shorthanded Already? Murphy, Young Out Of Mets’ Opening Day Lineup
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s Opening Day … and the Mets are already banged up.
Well, that may be a bit of an overstatement, but the Amazin’s first lineup of the season is missing some key pieces.
Second baseman Daniel Murphy will not be in the lineup due to the birth of his child. Chris Young, slated to be the club’s starting right fielder, will also be held out of the lineup with a right quad strain.
The injury is reportedly minor, and he’s expected to be able to pinch-hit.
Eric Young, Jr. will take Murphy’s spot at second base and lead off, and Andrew Brown will replace Young and hit fifth.
Ike Davis will start over Lucas Duda at first base and hit sixth. Defensive whiz Juan Lagares will get the nod in center field.
First pitch at Citi Field is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
