NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man dressed in a construction helmet and surgical mask attacked an elderly woman in a Queens elevator Saturday and stole her wallet, police said.
The man followed the 71-year-old victim into her apartment building in Flushing around 1:30 p.m. and got in the elevator with her, police said. He then pushed her, snatched her pocketbook and fled with an unknown amount of money, authorities said. The woman was taken to New York Hospital Queens with a broken leg.
Police have released surveillance video of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him. He is described as white, possibly Hispanic; 30-40 years old; and wearing a yellow construction mask, white surgical mask, dark jacket and carrying a tool bag.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 or to submit a tip online at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com. All communications are kept confidential.
